Corporate Relationship Manager

We are seeking a Corporate Relationship Manager to join our Real Estate team. The selected candidate will have a proven track record in lending and experience in project based construction lending and commercial real estate and will be responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of credit facilities. The incumbent will perform duties in support of the goals of the Real Estate business unit and will report directly to the Business Head.

This management position requires proficiency in all areas of commercial banking, credit skills, negotiations skills and bank product knowledge.  This will involve acquiring a working knowledge of the day-to-day processes which include the duties as described hereunder.

Principal Duties:

  • Manage, monitor, control, review and service a portfolio of corporate clients under their responsibility. Participate in calls on major commercial accounts;

  • Identify and contact potential clients with the aim of winning new business  and developing new relationships and to meet annual targets set in terms of growth in the lending portfolio;

  • Provide an excellent service to bank clients, attending diligently and in a timely manner to their requests;

  • Evaluate financing proposals submitted by prospective borrowers and preparation of the credit applications in accordance with the Bank's lending procedures and regulations;

  • Prepare periodical reports and dashboards including presentations with action plans to ensure pre-determined asset class growth within defined timeframes;

  • Act as an ambassador for the Bank in the external community by establishing, maintaining and growing relationships with key sector organisations and professional intermediaries to support achievement of the Bank's business objectives;

  • Drive initiatives to develop innovative corporate lending and new banking products to meet client needs; and

  • Supports the Head of Department in the direction and consistent execution of commercial banking goals and strategies. Mentor and coach junior team members.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • A qualification at tertiary level in banking or accountancy is a prerequisite although talented candidates carrying out similar studies will also be considered;

  • At least 10 years banking experience with adequate knowledge at a corporate level;

  • Be a professional with commercial focus, committed and able to identify customers’ needs and provide suitable and efficient solutions;

  • Possess a strong background in financial analysis and business appraisal to be able to analyse financial reports, forecasts and business plans and draw reasonable inferences and interpretations therefrom;

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of similar work experience, especially in business banking, with specialisation in credit evaluation;

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills; and 

  • Be conversant with mainstream banking applications and the Microsoft Office suite;
