Junior Safety & Business Continuity Officer

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Safety & Business Continuity Associate looking to join our team. The Safety & Business Continuity Associate will support the Facilities Manager with monitoring workplace environmental and Health and Safety across all offices. He/She shall liaise with key officers at local and all international offices to ensure the Bank’s premises and policies are in line with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and ensuring the organisation has an effective response to major disruptions that threaten business continuity. This includes business continuity planning, crisis management response and collaboration with the Information Technology department regarding Disaster Recovery. 

Principal Duties:

The Safety & Business Continuity Associate will be responsible to:-

  • Participate at Health and Safety Committee to ensure the organization is compliant with all the relevant health and safety legislation;

  • Support all other teams as may be requested, ensuring the Group meets all the necessary legal and organizational requirements; 

  • Support Bank units with the development, implementation and execution of Health and Safety Programmes;

  • Liaise with external consultants and coordinate training for first aiders, fire wardens and assist the Facilities function to ensure that offices are pliant with the standards of occupational psychology, human factors (ergonomics) and workplace design;

  • Assist the Facilities Manager with Risk Assessments as and when required and also act as a reference point in relation to health and safety and business continuity;

  • Support Crisis Management Team initiatives.  Maintain close cooperation with all business units including branches and subsidiaries worldwide, ensuring the organisation has an effective response strategy to major disruptions that may threaten business continuity.

  • Update and maintain comprehensive business contingency plans and crisis procedures and ascertain that these are up to date. Roll-out standardised approaches for incident and crisis management while ensuring that plans and post incident reviews are developed, tested and employees trained accordingly as may be required.; and

  • Pro-actively work on raising crisis awareness by educating stakeholders through the dissemination of information and sharing/updating procedures on a periodical basis. Work closely together with all business units to continuously improve procedures and checklists based on learnings, evaluations and ad hoc feedback.

Skills and Experience:

The ideal candidate will be a young professional seeking to build a successful career in health and safety and business continuity. The successful candidate will :- 

  • Have excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills;

  • Be conversant with mainstream banking applications and the Microsoft Office suite;

  • Be able to work under pressure and work towards agreed performance targets;

  • Have a clean driving license;

Although on the job training will be provided, to be able to succeed in this role you must be willing to study towards achieving a formal Occupational Health and Safety qualification and Business Continuity Certification. Two years work experience in a related field will be considered an asset.
